Design Hotel Viu, Milan Italy

Our new place to stay in Milan!

Milan is one of my favourite Italian cities and one we frequently visit. We tend to fly to Munich or Berlin,Germany to see friends and family and then transit  ( flying Easyjet) into Milan before heading over the boarder by car to Switzerland. We usually stay for around 2 days to get our “Milan fix” which involves a bit of shopping, (I say a bit as my kids don’t enjoy it), dining and as we call it in our family art /architecture appreciation days ( 1 hour tops in a gallery/museum).

It’s my duty (one I love) to find our accommodation in Milan. I stumbled upon this hotel by chance not knowing that it was part of Designhotels , who by the way have a wonderful selection of curated hotels and resorts worldwide. So when my husband said good choice Bron and mentioned that it was part of Designhotels I knew I had made the right choice.

Hotel Viu

If you want to stay in a contemporary, beautifully designed 5 star hotel in Milan then consider booking a stay with Hotel Viu. Now it might not be located right in the centre of town, which is kind of unusual for this style of hotel, instead located in the up and coming Chinatown area of Porta Volta.  A conveniently located tram stop just around the corner will have you arrive in the heart of Milan in less than 15min. Too easy!

We stayed, we loved it! Would be return again? In a heartbeat!

They have a wonderful selection of rooms to suit couples, families, those with mobility concerns as well as making sure man’s best friend has a pleasant stay.

Our Stay

As we were staying as a family of 6 ( this included Nonna) we needed space. We were delighted to be able to book two interconnecting rooms ( Superior Double room) which didn’t break the bank. Our rate just shy of Christmas ( Dec 20-22) per night for two rooms was 340 Euros.  We opted not to have breakfast at 35 Euros p.p. They do however offer a children’s breakfast at a reduced rate and selection.

Tip when booking

Book directly with them, they offered us a much better rate. They are a member of the Design Hotels and SPG

Need to know

  • The hotel does have a neighbouring construction site which belongs to them. Due to the double glazing of the windows we didn’t here a thing! It was winter time so I can not advise what it would be like in the summer months for the rooms which have balconies. So best to enquire before your stay.
  • Make sure you reserve dining at the hotel as it is popular amongst the locals
  • As I said we didn’t stay for breakfast instead enjoyed several coffees and a basket of croissants instead. Coffees at 6 Euros each we found was over the top.

When in Milan

Our favourite Restaurants in Milan (best to book in advance)

  • Paper Moon
  • Lentinis ( Along the hotel/ city tram route)

Where to shop

  • La Rinascente – Many major brands all under the one roof.
  • Via della Spiga – Fashion district of Milan, shop till you drop fashion flagship stores and boutiques.
  • Peck –  gourmet foods ( delicious parma ham, fresh pasta and truffle pate).
