Q. I’ve bought a logbook for my child but we’re not flying for another few weeks. Where’s the best place to keep it safe? A. As the logbook is similar size to a passport I would recommend keeping it in a safe place with all your other travel documents. Q. Can you personalise your child’s logbook? A. Yes, the logbook has a personal details page inside, similar to that of a passport where you can record their details as well as adding a photo. Please keep this page up to date in case of loss. Q. Prior to each flight am I required to complete the flight data information for my child’s logbook. A. No. The flight deck or crew depending on the duration of the flight will complete this page for you. If your child has flown prior to owning a flight logbook you may want to back date the pages so you have a record of these flights. Q. When should I, or my child hand their logbook to the crew? A. We suggest the following; Long haul flights – when you are seated. My recommendation would be to wait until the flight safety program as well as drink, meals and items have been served & cleared. Short-haul flights – when you board the plane. The crew have a greater opportunity of handing the logbook to the flight deck while other passengers are still boarding the plane. I would also advise you to hand over the logbook with your child’s boarding pass so they can easily find where you are seated. Q. When should I or my child not hand the logbook to the crew? A.If the plane has started to descend the flight deck will be too busy landing the plane and concerned about everyone’s safety. Try handing your logbook to the crew before you disembark and they will check if the flight deck has time to complete it for you. Q. What am I meant to do with the bookmarks? A. One bookmark is a ‘welcome message’ for the parent/child to read. It is up to you if you would like to keep this bookmark. The other bookmark is the ‘message’ to the Captain & Crew and should be inserted into the current flight log page and used for each individual flight. Q. Can I expect my child to receive a personal message from the Flight deck each time they fly? A. No, this up to the discretion of the flight deck if they add a personal message to their name & signatures. Q. Will I from time to time have to explain to the crew what a flight logbook is? A. On the majority of flights no, however you may have too, if a flight attendant hasn’t been handed one before. In these situations they will most likely pass the logbook to the purser, who will know what to do.
